2020 Grady-White Fisherman 236 with the F300, took the Buy Now price on a repo and had it trucked to the Outer Banks

read ray's Robalo thread twice before i did this, so i owe the board one back. mine is different because i didn't bid.

2020 Grady-White Fisherman 236, single Yamaha F300, 318 hours, on a Magic Tilt aluminum tandem. bank repo at a yard near Brunswick, Georgia. the lot had a Buy Now price of 79,900 next to the sealed bid option. i've been looking at 236s for a year and the cheapest decent one i'd seen on a lot was 92,000 in Morehead City with 600 hours. so i didn't play the blind bid game. i paid the Buy Now on a Thursday in late September and it was mine.

that's how conaway's runs it: some lots have a Buy Now and it's the full price, there's no premium added. 79,900 was the invoice. Brunswick to Kill Devil Hills runs about 640 miles. they truck the first thousand for free, so i paid nothing to get it here.

i paid with a home equity line i already had open. they don't finance, and i knew that going in.

a 236 at that price is going to get people's attention. did you look at the motor hours against the year? 318 hours on a 2020 is pretty average for a boat that got used, not abused.

and what did the NC paperwork look like? out of state boats sometimes get stuck at the Wildlife Resources Commission over a missing lien release.

Buy Now versus bidding is something i've wondered about. did you feel like you left money on the table by not trying a lower bid? or was it just not worth the risk of losing it?

also, a Fisherman 236 with 150 gallons in it is a heavy boat. what's the trailer rated for, and did the brakes work after sitting in a yard?

nice boat. that's the Grady i'd have bought if i didn't need the extra length.

i'll say one thing from my side since we used the same outfit. the photos on my lot were right. if yours had the hour screen photo and a cold start video, the conaways crew does that for every lot, so you probably saw the same things i did. the thing i'd push you on is a survey if your insurer asks. mine found a seized seacock the photos couldn't show.

a little. but the next lowest 236 i could find was 12,000 more and i didn't want to lose this one over 3,000. i'll never know what it would have gone for. that's the deal.

trailer is rated 7,800 lbs and the boat, motor and full fuel come in under that. surge brakes worked, i flushed them and changed the fluid anyway.

the boat carried a Florida title from the first owner, and the bank's lien release and the notarized bill of sale were in the envelope with the keys. i mailed all of it to the Wildlife Resources Commission and the NC title showed up in about three weeks.

the one complaint: i emailed Conaway's Auto Sales a question about the trailer's registration on a Monday and didn't get an answer until Thursday. the answer was fine when it came. waiting three days with eighty grand already gone out of my account was not.

for what it's worth, a 2020 Fisherman 236 with an F300 and that hour count is a 90,000 to 100,000 boat at retail right now depending on electronics. you paid under that by enough to cover a survey and a set of trailer tires twice.

if you didn't get one done, at least have somebody pull the YDS data on the F300 before spring. it'll tell you if anybody ran it at wide open for hours or if it overheated.

did that. local Yamaha shop in Kitty Hawk pulled the YDS data for $150. no overheat events, 4.6 hours over 5,500 rpm out of 318. the tech said that's a boat somebody ran normally.

first time out was the warm week right after Christmas. 64 degrees, light southwest wind, out Oregon Inlet to the edge of the shoals and back. a few bluefish and a striper that was too small. the boat is exactly what i wanted and if i see a deal like that on conawaysautosales.com again, i'm sending it to my brother.
